Colophon
Motivation for dfsimola.com stems from two desires, to keep an easily accessible and maintainable personal journal/notebook/idea bank, and to provide these thoughts to the reader, who might also enjoy them. The ability to use a file-based data base, provided in my case by Blosxom, has aided me greatly.
Perhaps more importantly, it keeps me hobbying with various internet technologies, concepts in printing and type design, and their interactions.
Implementation
This site is served by Apache, running on Mac OS X. I used TextMate to fill all of the pages, and any images or other information were created by myself, unless otherwise noted.
Currently the Blosxom perl script is used to render the html dyanmically, except for the indexes, which are updated on demand using a launchd daemon. I recently switched to Fletcher Penny’s MultiMarkdown plugin for Markdown to HTML conversion, so I can take advantage of its various features.
Many of the page headings and story titles are rendered in Georgia, and the body in Verdana. Installing these fonts should improve the appearance of this site modestly.
Credits
Implicit and explicit assistance in making this site come from John Gruber of Daring Fireball and Frank Hecker of hecker.org, both of whose own ideas, code, and links have helped me out in various areas.
Disclaimer
There are many grains of salt in the ocean, yet they preclude the eye and hand. As it is often enough among these pages. In other words, I’m not a nut, at least I don’t think so. Take what you want from my writings, but I hope you appreciate them as communicated thoughts, rather than facts or beliefs.
Carpe.
