John Holland has beautifully described and implemented exactly what I have been thinking about concerning an organism simulator. I have wanted to build a program that reasonably simulates the processes of life, however without the complexity and details of biochemistry. Holland has generalized these capabilities in his framework, and I am pleased that at least someone is working on the problem.
